Les Shirley - Breakout West 2024

Throwback to September 27th 2024 in the lovely city of Saskatoon.
Hailing from Montreal, Quebec - let me introduce to you the ever energizing, entertaining and powerful Les Shirley. I was lucky enough to cross paths with the all-female, three-piece rock band at Breakout West Music Festival 2024. The band consists of Raphaëlle Chouinard (lead vocals & guitar), Sarah Dion (bass guitar) and Lisandre Bourdages (drums) and together form an impactful, upbeat rock sound with that perfect hint of the early 2000's punk wave everyone can't help but love.
Naturally, the song that stood out to me with no prior knowledge of the band is track one off of their 2021 album, Forever Is Now, by the name of "Fuck It I'm In Love". The song features some of the most impactful and purposeful guitar (and bass guitar) lines I've heard at a live show in some time, it keeps the listener upbeat and focused while the full-feeling drums make all heads in the room, inevitably bob. I swear, everyone in the room couldn't help but dance or turn to their fellow-concert goer's in-awe of the cheeky songwriting.
The band has had several EXTREMELY notable shows with acts such as Jimmy Eat World, Simple Plan, Foo Fighters and Avril Lavigne, including tours across Canada, USA and Europe/UK. Without further adieu, take a look and listen to the one and only, Les Shirley.
